QuikSCAT winds, AVHRR sea surface temperature, and SSM/I winds from January 25, 2008. The images displayed above illustrate the different methods of satellite remote sensing. Wind data is obtained using microwaves and penetrates clouds whereas the temperature image uses thermal bands that clouds may obscure.
