QSCAT SeaWinds ocean surface winds depict wind velocities at an elevation of 10m. The current empirically derived model function being used to relate normalized radar cross-section with wind speed and direction is referred to as QSCAT1. The strictest Multidimensional Histogram (MUDH)flag has been used to yield wind speeds within 2m/s.

Usage Caveats:

  • Presented wind speed quantities should not be considered absolute
  • In storms with high wind gradients, the wind speed values will be underestimated
  • Data buffer is 22 hours prior to the most recent update time.
