File Naming Conventions

Filenames for NOAA CoastWatch SSM/I sea surface winds products contain a limited amount of information about the file. A typical filename for a 4 hour composite:

QS0400608ds_WW.tif
QSYYJJJHH[as|ds]_RR.ext

Where:

YY: Two digit year data was captured
JJJ: Day of Year (162 in year 2003 is June 11)
HH: Hour of the day, 24 hour format
[as|ds]: Satellite pass was either ascending or descending
RR: Region of Coverage
ext: File type

24 hour Day composites follow this same format with the ommission of the HH hour field.
