Field Observations

Field observations of the relative abundance of sea nettles are required to evaluate the nowcast maps. Nowcasts will be evaluated by comparing them against field observations of nettles in the bay. Currently, we are using observations collected by scientists and volunteers of the Alliance for Chesapeake Bay.

We are looking for people to assist us in providing additional field observations of sea nettles from all regions of the Chesapeake Bay. Observers can include any responsible individual, such as high school and college students, boaters, fishermen, mariners, and individuals from any Bay-going organization. You should be able to correctly identify jellyfish in the Bay.

Observations can be submitted on-line. If you plan to contribute observations regularly from a specific location, you may wish to become a registered observer. Becoming a registered observer will save you the time of typing in the position of your sighting.

When you register as an observer your personal information is protected by the NOAA Privacy Policy.
