Mapping Sea Nettles in the Chesapeake Bay

Maps of probable sea nettle presence are created every Friday by identifying locations where the current environmental conditions are favorable to sea nettles. This is accomplished using data derived from hydrodynamic computer models and NOAA satellites. The maps are available in the following formats or presentation:

Popup: Picture Download Portable Network Graphic Format (PNG): Graphical maps of temperature, salinity, and sea nettle distribution probability.
DOWNLOAD: Vector Data in a zipfile Geographic Information System Vector Data (Shapefile): Shapefile containing temperature, salinity, and sea nettle distribution probabilityas tabular attributes for polygonal model output. (Zip File)
Online Mapping
  • Current Data: User-controllable features, scale, extent, and information.
  • Retrospective Data: Access to older datasets with user-controllable features, scale, extent and information.
