TMI Sea Surface Temperature Product Overview

NOAA CoastWatch provides EXPERIMENTAL sea surface temperature (SST) products derived from the TRMM Microwave Imager (TMI). Ascending and descending passes are available as a global dataset within 24 hours of observation. These global SST products from TMI are available through the NOAA CoastWatch Web Server.

Image information is found in the product file's naming convention and information sidebar or banner. The colorbar (as illustrated to the right) shows the relationship between colors shown in the image and temperature. The following information is from a typical sidebar:

Product Type: Sea Surface Temperature
Satellite: TRMM
Resolution (Res:): 30 km -- the geographic size of each pixel in the image
Date and Time: A 'Day of Year' and MM/DD/YY and time period over which images were composited.
