Data Validation

Results of this algorithm have been compared to other data sources (IR-based SSTs as well as other in-situ data), and will be presented with sample SST products. Additional improvements in the accuracy should be gained by the future development of algorithm coefficients based upon radiative transfer models. This product is considered EXPERIMENTAL until additional results are obtained.

Validation with NDBC Buoys have shown the following results:
Ocean surface wind speeds < 7m/s Bias (TMI-Buoy) = -0.23 degrees C
RMS = 1.28 degrees C
Ocean surface wind speeds > 7m/s Bias (TMI-Buoy) = -0.22 degrees C
RMS = 1.3 degrees C
