Biography

Dr. Coffer is a member of the NOAA CoastWatch Applications Team, focusing on coastal and inland water quality applications.  She was a ORISE postdoc fellow at the EPA using satellite remote sensing for assessing harmful algal blooms in inland waters, including in waters where communities get their drinking water, and using commercial satellite platforms to map seagrass ecosystems and monitor oil spills.  Megan’s academic career was spent in North Carolina where she received her PhD in Geospatial Analytics and MS in Atmospheric Science from NC State University and received her BS in Mathematics from Meredith College.  Megan currently serves as a co-chair for a working group within GEOAquaWatch focused on the distribution, access, and visualization of remote sensing datasets to appeal to broad audiences and on the distribution of scientific, technical and other outputs to applicable end users.
