Cessation of Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) data

Please take note of this NOAA announcement (below) regarding the discontinuation of data from Suomi NPP satellite. For many of our CoastWatch users, this means VIIRS SNPP. You are welcome to contact the CoastWatch help desk if you need some guidance or assistance in finding replacement data (likely NOAA-20 VIIRS).

Topic: Cessation of Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) data to users on/after November 01, 2026 

Date/Time Issued: August 3, 2026 at 1600 UTC

Product(s) or Data Impacted: All S-NPP data products

Date/Time of Initial Impact: November 1, 2026 at 1300 UTC (8:00 AM EST)  

Date/Time of Expected End: N/A

Length of Outage:  Permanent

Details/Specifics: NOAA will end delivery of all remaining science products from the Suomi National Polar-Orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) satellite at 13:00 UTC (8:00 AM EST) on November 1, 2026

• ATMS - data will no longer be available after November 1, 2026 at 13:00 UTC (8:00 AM EST) 

• CERES - data will no longer be available after November 1, 2026, at 13:00 UTC (8:00 AM EST) 

• OMPS - Nadir - data will no longer be available after November 1, 2026, at 13:00 UTC (8:00 AM EST) 

• OMPS - Limb- data will no longer be available after November 1, 2026, at 13:00 UTC (8:00 AM EST) 

• VIIRS - data will no longer be available after November 1, 2026, at 13:00 UTC (8:00 AM EST) 

• HRD - Direct Broadcast will be disabled after November 1, 2026, at 13:00 UTC (8:00 AM EST)

• CrIS - End of Operational Use occurred on December 23, 2025

Further updates regarding S-NPP will be provided as the November 1, 2026 date approaches.

All users should transition to using NOAA-21 (Primary) and NOAA-20 (Secondary) science products, which are accessible via NOAA Product Distribution and Access (PDA). NOAA-21 and NOAA-20 provide complementary science data via similar instruments.
