7-day average sea surface temperature (SST) from the AVHRR instrument aboard the NOAA and MetOp satellites, 2008-present, is generated by NOAA/NESDIS from High Resolution Picture Transmission (HRPT) overpasses (1.1 km at nadir) using Seaspace's TeraScan software and NOAA's multi-channel regression algorithm. The individual daytime and nighttime overpasses over the U.S. east coast are composited into daily mean grids (~1.25 km), then the daily composite grids are averaged into gridded 7-day temperature averages.
